Need to Know Something About Barcode Verifiers?

Barcodes are referred as optical machine-readable representations of data which contain specific data of certain products. Barcodes are printed on labels or tags called barcode labels. Barcodes are read by a specific device called a barcode scanner. Various technologies including laser, CCD, bluetooth and others are used in barcode readers. Different manufacturers provide scanners of various technologies. For example, laser and CCD scanners are included in models of Symbol scanners. The data read with the help of barcode scanners is decoded and sent into a computer. A database stores all the data which includes the description and status of a specific product. Thus a proper functioning of a barcode system involves accuracy of barcode labels, printers, scanners and the database.

It is necessary to check the nature of barcodes. Validity of barcodes that are printed are checked by barcode verifiers. These verifiers check and predict the nature and industry standards of barcodes. The format of a barcode is checked by a barcode verifier. The results are graded accordingly which lead to implementation of corrective actions if necessary.

Earlier, barcode verifiers were used to check the printed widths of bars and spaces. This way of traditional barcode verification was considered as an extension of printed barcode specifications. Addressing the defects of the printed code was not possible through traditional barcode verifiers. New standards are established by American National Standards Institute (ANSI) and the Uniform Code Council (UCC). Barcode print quality is measured based on the new standards according to the way actual scanners work.

Improved performance of printers and converters can be given through verification process including specific scanning systems. Print quality assessment can be implemented within some scanners. The scanner can be pre-installed with a print quality assessment for verification of print quality and proper encoding of barcodes. Barcode verifiers may be mobile or fixed. They are available in a wide range of prices. With advances in technology, there has been a competition for design of new models of Symbol scanners, Zebra printers, and barcode verifiers having scanning systems.
