Different Types of Commonly Abused Drugs

Drug abuse some times called as substance abuse or chemical abuse is a process which involves excessive use of the substance which leads to significant problems or distress. Any substance whose ingestion can result in a euphoric feeling can be abused and the following are the substances which are commonly abused:

Alcohol:

Alcohol is an intoxicating liquid that is obtained from fermented grain or fruit. Though alcohol is legal excess consumption causes many chronic diseases.

Amphetamines:

These are the drugs which are prescribed by the doctor and overdose of any of these substances can result in seizure and death.

Ecstasy:

It is also called as MDMA, this drug tends to create a sense of euphoria and an expansive love or desire to nurture others. When taken in excess it increases body temperature to the point of being fatal.

Cannabis:

It is commonly called as marijuana and this is mixed with substances like baby powder, oregano, embalming fluid, PCP, opiates, and cocaine.

Cocaine:

It is a type of drug that tends to stimulate the nervous system, cocaine can be snorted in powder form, smoked when in the form of rocks or injected when made into a liquid.

Inhalants:

Inhalants are usually contained in household cleaners. These are most commonly inhaled drugs. They can damage the brain and may lead to death.

Nicotine:

Nicotine is a psychoactive drug that induces euphoria, makes the smoker to use it more and leads to nicotine withdrawal syndrome when it is absent. Factors like nicotine dependence, genetic factors, and psychosocial factors influence smoking behavior in the people. Nicotine persists in the body up to six to eight after smoking is stopped. Nicotine affects the mood and performance and is the source of addiction to tobacco.

Opiates:
These are also called as narcotics and they include drugs like heroine, codeine, Vicodin, Percocet, and Percodan. They show their effect on the functioning of the nervous system and they also effect the respiratory system.

Phencyclidine:
This drug can cause the user to feel extremely paranoid and user becomes quite aggressive and gets an unusual amount of physical strength. This is also referred as PCP.

Anabolic Steroids:

These are generally used by body builders and athletes and they cause psychological effects like aggressihttp://www.blogger.com/img/blank.gifon and paranoia, physical effects like infertility and organ failure.

Anti anxiety drugs:
These substances depress the nervous system, they can cause death by respiratory arrest of the person if these drugs are taken in overdose or combined with other nervous system depressant drugs.

Apart from these drugs there are also some rarely available illegal drugs, which ultimately destruct the abusers life.
