Small Tips on Maintaining Proper House Ventilation

For creating an air tight home through air sealing techniques, proper ventilation is needed to prevent moisture and indoor air pollutants. So, it is necessary to have proper home ventilation for creating an healthy and energy-efficient home.

Here are some tips for maintaining a proper ventilation of your home:

  • Ventilation of the moisturized areas should be directly placed towards outside. This is especially significant for washroom or bathroom, which normally produce more moisture than any other places in the house. Also apply the same type of ventilation system for the appliances like dryer, which produces more moisture than any other household appliances.
  • With improper ventilation, attic radiates heat into living areas during summer. So, keep the house cool in summer by maintaining proper natural ventilation.
  • A whole house fan can be used to keep the atmosphere cool in home. It lowers heating and cooling costs, reduces indoor odors, pollutants and freshens the atmosphere of your home. This is called whole house ventilation which controls air movement using small fans and duct systems. But most probably it does not work very well when the outdoor temperature or humidity is much higher than the indoor temperature.
  • Use exhaust fans in kitchen to keep your kitchen cool and clean away from insects. This is called spot ventilation which controls air movement and removes pollutants and moisture at their source.
  • Open the windows once the humidity drops below the natural humidity, so that moisture does not build up inside the rooms.
  • Make a proper decision of the placement of window fans if needed, to control the indoor temperature as closely as an air conditioning unit does. Turn on your window fans when it is cool outside than inside.

Ventilation is very important for a house, hence, follow the above tips to have a good ventilation in your home.
