This is called whole house ventilation which controls air movement using small fans and duct systems. But most probably it does not work very well when the outdoor temperature or humidity is much higher than the indoor temperature.
- Use exhaust fans in kitchen to keep your kitchen cool and clean away from insects. This is called spot ventilation which controls air movement and removes pollutants and moisture at their source.
- Open the windows once the humidity drops below the natural humidity, so that moisture does not build up inside the rooms.
- Make a proper decision of the placement of window fans if needed, to control the indoor temperature as closely as an air conditioning unit does. Turn on your window fans when it is cool outside than inside.

Important Tips for Maintaining Washing Machines
According to the Study of Life Expectancy of Home Components, the average life expectancy of a washing machine is 10 years. Taking some simple measures will ensure that they last longer than expected. Here are some tips for maintaining your washing machine in right condition:
- Some times waste water gets trapped in the washing machines and this stagnant water produces pungent smell, so see that no water remains in the washing machine after every wash.
- Make sure the fittings are not corroded, there is no water dripping and the hoses are not blistered or cracked. It is good to replace the fittings and hoses every 3 years.
- Keep the exteriors of the washing machines clean.
- Clean the tub of the washing machine at least ones in every three months and setup the washing machine in its hot level.
- The surface of a washer should be kept clean by using a soft cloth or rag, along with hot water, bleach, soap, or a non abrasive cleaner.
- Clean the inside of the washing machine with either a proprietary washing machine cleaner, a distilled vinegar and baking soda mixture, or a detergent mixed with bleach and follow up by rinsing with a cold water cycle without any cleaning solutions.
- It is good to remove the dispenser, soak it in hot water, clean out any residue in and around the dispenser port if it is removable.
- Using more detergent results in more suds, soap residue, and the buildup of gunk, so use these detergents half to three quarters amount to clean clothes.
- If your washing machine has a filter, remove and clean it.
