According to the Study of Life Expectancy of Home Components, the average life expectancy of a washing machine is 10 years. Taking some simple measures will ensure that they last longer than expected. Here are some tips for maintaining your washing machine in right condition:
- Some times waste water gets trapped in the washing machines and this stagnant water produces pungent smell, so see that no water remains in the washing machine after every wash.
- Make sure the fittings are not corroded, there is no water dripping and the hoses are not blistered or cracked. It is good to replace the fittings and hoses every 3 years.
- Keep the exteriors of the washing machines clean.
- Clean the tub of the washing machine at least ones in every three months and setup the washing machine in its hot level.
- The surface of a washer should be kept clean by using a soft cloth or rag, along with hot water, bleach, soap, or a non abrasive cleaner.
- Clean the inside of the washing machine with either a proprietary washing machine cleaner, a distilled vinegar and baking soda mixture, or a detergent mixed with bleach and follow up by rinsing with a cold water cycle without any cleaning solutions.
- It is good to remove the dispenser, soak it in hot water, clean out any residue in and around the dispenser port if it is removable.
- Using more detergent results in more suds, soap residue, and the buildup of gunk, so use these detergents half to three quarters amount to clean clothes.
- If your washing machine has a filter, remove and clean it.
The above are the useful tips for maintaining washing machines.
